A year ago last week I posted an LJ entry stating that I was on the February degree list, and graduating "in theory". I knew it was a stretch goal, but thought that it was a good start.

Obviously, I had miscalculated just how much I was stretching.

Anyway, at my committee meeting today we discussed: An early December defense date. A mid-November mini-defense. Turning in draft chapters (2 next week, one in two weeks, and the conclusion chapter by mid-October). So... this time, for real. Darn it.

I do have order one hundred pages of written material already, so I believe that this is eminently doable. But forgive me if I act at all erratically in the next couple of months, as my productivity waxes and wanes and I oscillate between desperately needing socialization and totally ignoring everyone to concentrate on writing. (And thank you to my various writing companions for our productive study halls!)

Cheering from the sidelines

Go Marcus, you can do it!!!

I know it's a long slog but you have what it takes to successfully cross that finish line!

And I'd also observe that your version of "erratic" looks a lot like many people's "everyday," so I'm thinking forgiveness is rarely necessary.

Can't wait for your December graduation. . . !

Whee... and as soon as I actually get that date set in stone, I'll schedule the December party which is almost as important as the December graduation. =)

You'll be fine.
Remember the immortal words of Douglas Adams: Don't Panic.

More Study Halls here will announced as soon as this weekend becomes clear...

More study halls are good. Especially now that I know I need to turn in drafts very very soon now.

I'm not panicking totally quite yet. Hopefully I will continue to hang onto sanity throughout this process. =)

I'm rooting for you! I think you've figured out useful things in the past year, not just killed time.

Heck, I figure out something cool and useful in the last month that gives one of my chapters a lot more kick and originality, and my committee members seemed to like my theory.

We'll see if they still like it when they get all the supporting evidence. Next week. Eep! Must write!

Go Marcus! And remember, at least your graduation ceremony doesn't involve finger pulling!

*cheers* Everyone except you is completely confident that you can do it. That is the way of such things, I guess. :)

Our offices (in E70) are probably pretty close to you, so let me know if you ever need to vent or take a break from a computer screen while taking a quick walk along the river, or something.
