Chapter!

I just sent an actual draft of one of my chapters to my committee chair. I might actually be approaching a finished thesis. Still have to have a committee meeting to discuss scheduling a defense date, and to make sure they are all on board with what I am proposing.

Plus, my thesis is now about 50% longer (by word count) than the single longest previous piece of work I've ever written (which was a tie between my master's thesis and a writing group story). Which is good. The sad part is that I realized I once wrote 15,000 words in four 8 hour days for my general exams, and right now it is a really good day if I can manage 1000 words (sometimes it is a good day if I make one figure, depending on the figure). And I still have a _lot_ I haven't written yet.

Anyway, to reward myself I think I'll go get sushi and a haircut. Not at the same place, though. =)

1000 words a day is a lot when you're working on something sustained. Hang in there. You'll make it.

Yeah, I find I write much more slowly than I used to, too.
I think it's mostly lack-of-focus, but maybe it's also braincells dying.

Congratulations on the chapter being done!

It is totally lack-of-focus problems on my part. When I'm on, I'm on, but when I'm not... it is like wading through tapioca while being distracted by flying disco balls...

Isn't "words words words" the play about the monkeys writing Shakespeare?

Yay chapter! You need to combine the sushi and haircut and get stylish ichthyic accoutrements for your hair.

Go team. Slow but sure. First get it written, then get it right, and all that.
I got a million of them.

See my last post on the worrrrrrying of a word: I truly believe that as one's ability to discern the quality of a phrase or sentence improves, it can take longer to get the "right" sentence down. Then there's practice practice practice.

There are sushi and haircut combo places-- but I've only heard of them in Japan!

My brother and I apparently both have the right-sentence problem like that. (I don't remember which high school teacher of ours told me that he did the same thing. I'm remembering it as a French teacher, but that can't be right, because it wouldn't have been an issue for me in French II. I was a good student, but not that good!)
