Does it strike other people as ironic that the new T litter campaign... er, safety campaign... involves flyers with the word "TRUST" prominently displayed, but that the point of the flyers is in fact that we should be distrustful?

fyi, the flyer says "see something? say something. transit watch. TRUST your instincts and be prepared" with TRUST in a font about three times the size of everything else.

(note that this is not a statement on the appropriateness of a "watch your neighbor" motto as I haven't fully formed an opinion yet, but just on the irony. Though comments on said (in)appropriateness are welcome)

I'm overcome by their slogan, "See something? Say something." Now I can't stop saying over and over again, "I see something." I should learn not to listen to everything I read.

Creepy.

And, ahm, they're handing out flyers that people will drop, and um, litter?

There were dozens of flyers scattered all over the floor of the train I was in yesterday. I presume that wasn't the original intented distribution method, but...

At least they've moderated their stance a lot. "see something, say something" is not that bad to me. YOU MUST LIVE IN A CULTURE OF FEAR, which is where they started, greatly annoyed me.

I remember seeing these posters graffiti-pasted to some jersey barriers last Fall. "Are terrorists planning on blowing up the new Waterfront condos?" And other stuff.

It just made me laugh and laugh.

Yeah. What happened to days when Presidents would say that "the only thing we have to fear is fear itself"? Or "Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration." Oh, wait, sorry, I'm mixing my Presidents and my science fiction novels again...

I hear Camp Himmler in the rockies is really nice this time of year. Ask for it if you get the chance.

Clearly I can trust myself but not you.
And clearly, you can trust yourself but not me.

Which doesn't get anyone any further.

"Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows. And Australia is entirely peopled with criminals. And criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me. So I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you."

"I've got it! I've got it! The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true! Right?"

"Right. But there's been a change: they broke the chalice from the palace!"
