Party Planning

As previously mentioned, I'll be defending on March 19th. In celebration of finally finishing my doctorate, I'm planning on throwing a party (EDIT: probably Saturday March 24th). However, the location of said party is not yet obvious, and for that I wanted to get advice:

Things I might like at my party: dancing, music, games, food. Most importantly, people.

If I want dancing, this suddenly limits my choice of venues to places with appropriate floors, which rules out my apartment. Of course, even if I give up on my dancing hopes, my apartment might be too small for the party, anyway.

So do people have recommendations on where I might find an appropriate location with about a month's notice? I am willing to spend a decent amount for the right kind of place. The other option is finding space at MIT, which would probably mean 4th floor of the student center (all of the larger spaces are booked already). But MIT space would require student group or departmental sponsorship.

I'll also take suggestions on other fun things to do for my party. If it was outdoor weather, I'd have considered a celebratory picnic, but I think that mid March is inappropriate for that.

If you would like a cat-infested home not suitable for dancing we would happy to provide a location for your party.

As far as dancing locale goes, what about the place on Highland Ave a block downhill of arcanology's? I can't remember it off the top of my head, though.

I'm suspecting that March isn't a mad time for party throwing.

The American Legion place? Does that have a function room? Hrm. "Function" - is that the right word to be searching for? My google-fu is weak in the area of hall rentals...

And thank you for the offer of your house, that's very generous! The picnic in your living room worked quite well last year (two years ago?). I will certainly consider it...

There's also the Mason's hall in Arlington Center where Clifton and Beland had their wedding. Don't know if it is available on short notice, though. It had a kitchen and floor for dancing.

Actually, Astra reminded me it was Knights of Columbus, not the Mason's.

Ah. Or you mean Anthony's?

Both Anthony's and the Legion have function rooms. I can't tell you any more than that about them.

I meant Anthony's and described it poorly. I can't remember what the floor was like, but the room seemed to be the right size for dancing.

Let us know when this changes from "maybe Saturday March 24th" to "save the date for March 24th" because I tend to overbook my weekends, ok?

_Something_ will be happening on Saturday March 24th. I'm thinking maybe I can just have it at my apartment if I organize my bedroom such that it can be used as a social area too...

Great job! I just don't have much to say lately.

We are part of a growing national consensus that the United Kingdom’s energy policy is unbalanced, and that the drive for renewable energy generation has been inadequately planned, a fact that has resulted in a developer-led industrial feeding-frenzy that is http://www.squidoo.com/tits-big neither green nor sustainable. It is improbable that this current broad-scale industrialisation of the countryside will bring about any significant reductions in the emissions of greenhouse gases or meet the long-term energy needs of the UK (as laid out in the Feb 2003
