An Inconvenient Truth
Jun. 17th, 2006 10:53 pmWho wants to watch "the highest grossing Powerpoint Presentation in history"* with me tomorrow night? 7:45 pm, Sunday, Harvard Loews. Because when else will you get to watch Al Gore's movie with a genuine climate change expert who will be more than happy to answer all your questions afterwards?
*Quote found in a very funny Colbert report clip
Edit: Meeting in front of Harvard Loews at 7:35 pm. Anyone who wants to meet me for a fast, informal dinner beforehand, I'll be at the Out of Town News at 6 pm.

Date: 2006-06-18 06:28 am (UTC)I do look forward to hearing your take on it, though.
It makes a compelling case and presents it fairly well,
but I'm not sure how badly they twisted the facts.

Date: 2006-06-18 03:24 pm (UTC)Please do blog about it when you're done. I saw a preview for it yesterday, and thought to myself, "Oooo, I wish I could watch that with MarcusMarcus. I bet he can separate the truth from the truthiness."
Also, I remember you saying something at one point about the Bush administration suppressing scientific reports in support of global warming. Remind me what's up with that? Or did I make that up?

Date: 2006-06-18 03:43 pm (UTC)There was a big fuss about it, and apparently NOAA and NASA have revised their policies such that there will be less of that kind of suppression in the future. But, really, the scientific community is independent and ornery enough that there is a limit to what the Bush administration can do directly. The real problem is all the "astro-turf" misinformation put out by the oil industry and FOX news and such...

Date: 2006-06-18 03:55 pm (UTC)Ah, pity on the no video. The second half of the segment "Word of the Day" has little text messages complementing Colbert's speech. For example: Colbert: "Resign ourselves to doing nothing". Text supplement: "Follow Congress' Lead". Colbert: "Sure, there are a few adjustments we'll have to make". Text: "To Coastal Maps". Colbert: "We'll need people to cross animals off the endangered species list" Text: "Death March of the Penguins".
